About Denette Dunn
Denette Dunn is a sustainability expert and public speaker who served as a member and chair of Peoria’s Boards and Commissions Subcommittee. A former vice mayor, she is currently a council member representing the city’s Pine District.
In her role as a council member, Dunn created the Pine Citizens Advisory Committee to better serve her constituents. The committee was established to address concerns specific to the community and has since expanded its membership to over 100 residents and public officials.
Dunn has extensive experience in the private sector, having worked for Republic Services as the Municipal Services manager for over five years. Assigned to oversee the department’s services in the southwest, she was responsible for managing over $85 million in municipal contracts.
Concurrent with her position at Republic Services, Dunn was a registered lobbyist who helped pass legislation aimed at fostering equitable partnerships between private entities and municipalities.
She has also served on many other boards and commissions, including the WESTMARC Board, the Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission, the Tucson Clean and Beautiful’s Board of Directors, and the Solid Waste Association of North America’s Board of Directors.
Denette Dunn also served as president and legislative liaison of the Arizona Recycling Coalition.
Denette Dunn’s Career History
Before 2007, Dunn held marketing, sales, and regional management roles in various organizations.
From January 2007 to August 2011, she worked at Hudson Baylor Corporation as the Director of Marketing and Community Relations, managing incoming and outgoing material for three of the company’s material recovery facilities in Arizona. At the time, Hudson Baylor was the largest recycling processor in the state.
In her role as Director of Marketing and Community Relations, Dunn was tasked with overseeing the company’s public relations and educational outreach programs. Her responsibilities included networking with executive municipal and state public officials, as well as other decision-makers.
Dunn’s work with Hudson Baylor also required her to manage national accounts and coordinate with vendors from multiple sectors. Apart from composing and collecting bids, she also secured grants and sponsorship funding for corporate and municipal projects. She was even tasked with promoting events and participating in media coverage, for which she relied on her well-established network of personal contacts.
Dunn’s other responsibilities at Hudson Baylor included overseeing revenue management, strategic planning, and handling marketing and community relations. In this capacity, she coordinated with service providers in the construction of an education center and the development of a new curriculum, along with handling private tours for mayors and city council members.
From August 2011 to February 2016, Dunn assumed the Municipal Services Manager position at Republic Services, handling contracts for the Southwest area. Apart from managing millions of dollars in municipal contracts, she was tasked with overseeing consulting and lobbying firms in Arizona and Southern California. In this position, she served a key role in the passage of industry legislation that promoted the company’s business goals.
Dunn joined Dickson Sweeping in February 2016 as the Director of Marketing and Government Relations for the Southwest. Her tenure with the company lasted until December 2018, during which time she was involved in beneficial collaborations with the California-based firm.
Dunn has played a crucial role in the company’s investment in long-term municipal street sweeping agreements. She also assisted in the development of other service offerings, such as the design and construction of compressed natural gas fuel stations.
In addition, Dunn spearheaded the construction of Dickson Sweeping’s satellite offices in Arizona and Nevada, as well as the expansion of the company’s operations in the aforementioned states. She also created strategic marketing plans aimed at identifying and securing profitable contracts, demonstrating her adherence to the company’s rigorous criteria.
Denette has been a Councilmember for Peoria since April 2019 to the present. She currently heads the city’s six-member council while serving on the city’s Board of Directors and the Vistancia Community Facilities District (CFD) Council.

Denette Dunn has supported numerous charitable organizations and outreach programs over the years, including Hart Pantry, West Valley Connect, Peoria Panthers High School, and the American Legion. She is also an active supporter of You Matter Too, an anti-bullying nonprofit organization in Peoria.
